Default Gen3 to powerglide alignment?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum or if I'm describing this correctly but here goes.
I am installing a LS/powerglide into an '84 Camaro for a drag car. I have the motor /trans sitting in the car and I'm aligning the drivetrain and getting the angles right.
I noticed that the motor seems to be at a down angle, yet the trans seems to be flat. I put the angle finder on the valley cover (no intake) and I have about 4* down but the trans measures nearly flat at the pan rail.
Has anyone seen anything like this? And yes the trans is bolted to the motor with no gap and the case is not broken.
I assume the pan rail is flat and parallel with the trans shaft.
I also assume that the valley cover on the motor is flat and parallel with the crank, am I wrong?

I assume
I also assume
Apart from anything else, BAD IDEA.

The shafts in the PG are perpendicular to the BH flange. Same as any other transmission. Pretty sure the pan is at about a 5 - 6° angle to the shafts. Again, much like any other transmission. After all, it has / had to fit in A CAR, wherein the whole drive train (the shafts... crankshaft, transmission, pinion gear) is tilted, butt the pan need(s)/(ed) to be more or less horizontal i.e. parallel to the ground it might scrape on.

Measure from the shafts, not the pan.

AFAIK the valley cover in LS motors is parallel to the crank.

I was going to say the same thing, the Bell Housing Flange is not square with the Pan. Purposely done that way so there's a driveline angle and the Pan is flat with the ground so the fluid can collect properly.

Leave it alone and let it be, it's all fine.

With the first part you are, look at how the Transmission is built and don't assume things.

OK, thanks a bunch.
So, in order to find my driveline angles I can measure from the valley cover, drive shaft, and pinion.

The more I think about it, the more I appreciate you guys.
This is one of those things that should be obvious, but sometimes you can't see the forest for all those trees.
