Default New cooling system

Does anyone have any suggestions for filling a totally dry system? I filled up the radiator, and ran the engine. However, there does not seem to be any flow going through the block and back out the upper hose.

Any suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks,
Andrew

Did you heat it up enough for the thermostat to open? Run the engine with the cap off and turn your heater on (getting the heater valve open if you have one) until the thermostat opens (if you watch the coolant, you'll know when it opens). That should get the coolant running through every where it needs to.

I ran the engine up to 210. At least that was what my OBDII scan tool said. The fans came on at about 195. I took the thermostat out in hopes that things would work, but no luck. Honestly, I think I know what the problem is. I am a bit embarrassed to admit it...LOL....I will keep you all posted.

There was a post on HybridZ a couple of day ago about this. The conclusion was air in the heads. The vent that runs through the TB should be plumbed to the top of the radiator tank to help bleed the air out. I guess you could pull that hose (TB hose) and purge the system like that.

Pulling the upper rad hose off at the radiator, and filling the block thru it, has always worked for me. Gets the block nice and full.

Default Update

Hi,

I just wanted to give you all a little update. I finally figured out what my main problem was. The filler neck on the radiator is about 2 inches below the head bi-pass. So the system was only getting partially filled up. I ended up putting a funnel on the bi-pass hose and filling the block. Once everything was buttoned up there were no leaks and it maintained the temp perfectly.
