Default 6.0 to Dart LS Next 7.0

Hey everyone.
I have 2 diesel pickup trucks, but I also have a ‘17 Chevy 2500 with a 6.0. I know the 6.0 is the GM revolution supposed to be great and replace large displacement motors in the marine, light truck and class C motorhomes. Well I have experience with them in the marine and light truck. Nice engines, but they do not compare to 8.1’s at all.

As for this 17’ Chevy 2500 I have, the 6.0 is getting up there in mileage so I am looking into a new engine swap. The truck body and suspension itself is like it just came off the showroom floor, so it’s worth looking into getting a new engine ready for it.

I have a few 8.1 blocks, but I just think that is not an option due to it being a BBC platform and electronics, plus existing cooling system most likely would not be adequate.

I am looking at maybe going in a new Dart LS Next GenIII iron block skirted 4.125 bore 9.240 deck and go LS 427cid. Not to much out there for “heavy duty work power truck” specs, but I think with research and asking, don’t see that it cannot be done.

If all you have to say is, turbo the 6.0, just stay home.

Would trying to build a power work horse in a LS GenIII platform be feasible for this truck. I’m mostly diesel and I have BBC’s in my boat, the only experience I have with the LS motors is a 30,000 mile ‘98 TransAm with a LS1 5.7 that’s totaled and been sitting in the barn for years. I really like it though, and some work on the marine 6.0’s.

Thank you

I would still keep the heads and cam relatively conservative to keep low end behavior within "civilized" bounds.
THEN pressurize it!

Yes, nothing radical at all, really. Dependability and durability is the goal for sure. I will look into a possible turbo kit, but I was leaning towards a little higher compression package. My trucks do see a lot of weight and though the distance will not be any long haul for this truck, it’s wide load interstate travel, so she needs to hump it on down the road. When this truck was in its prime it had trouble getting it. It would complete it, but you don’t stay in the left lane doing it.

I will look into what I can get with a turbo. Thank you.

Why not just rebuild the 6.0 with some good cnc rectangle port milled heads with new camshaft with rebuilt stock rockers and new lifters and hone the block and buy new rings and bearings..?? ......Also when you buy accessories buy the Lsa spacing so your all set for the Lsa super charger later on down the road......
