california emmisions I am thinking of converting a 98+ v6 camaro into a LS1. What I am wondering about is smog(I live in California). Do I have to recertify it or re-register it or something to make it legal? is this possible? if so what would I do?

Check the DMV website-
The rules are there, but basically there are 3 rules on engine swaps-
1. Must be the same class and fuel engine, so you cant put a disel from a 3500 in your camaro
2. Engine must be the same year or newer. So you cant put a GN engine in your LT1, but you can put an LS1 in one.
3. ALL smog equipment must be present - AIR, EGR, EVAP, original cats, etc, etc, etc...
Do the swap, call the BAR and get an appointment with a ref, they will look the car over and sign it off, put a sticker on the door sill, and you are all ready to go!

No problem man. The refs are super helpful as well if you want to call them with any questions. They are car guys as well.
Oh - one other thing, you can only put a motor with a tranny that came as an option. So you could do a 5.7 with a T56 or 4L60, but you could not put in a 6.0 with a T56 as that tranny was never optioned with that motor.
