Mating ls1 to OLD SCHOOL tranny??

Mating ls1 to OLD SCHOOL tranny?? I may just be the only one doing an ls1 into a toyota fj40, and no I don't do crack!! Seems like everybody here likes to go fast. I do too, just over very rough terrain! Anyway, what combo of clutch parts will work together to mate an sm420 in my case or any old school tranny to the new motor? The crank stickout is roughly 1/2" different and overall clutch assembly (flywheel, disk, pressure plate) thickness is 3/4" different. Anybody converting using a non 3rd gen tranny? Advance adapters sells a kit for $600... there's got to be a cheaper way. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

I have an FJ60 with a 6.0 vortec and a 4L80E auto mated to a toyota split transfer case. I thought I wanted a manual and was considering a NV4500 (came stock in trucks) but the cost to switch was too much so I stuck with the auto. I have had no regrets and would definately recomend a similar setup.
I just read in a Hot Rod magazine about McLeod making a bunch of transmission conversions to mate an LS1 to just about anything. They have a conversion to mate an LS1 to a T5 out of a 87-93 Mustang. Possibly of interest to those who are doing the LS1 into a Mustang thing (like myself) to save some money. Look at mcleodind.com for more info.
