Ram Jet 350 or Ls-1 I am looking in to swap either a Ram Jet 350 or Ls-1 into 1st gen. camaro with a 6 speed manual. I think that the Ram jet is easier but it will be a daily driver and want to know how it is on gas compared to the ls-1? If anyone has any idea it would help.
While the LS1 probably does get better cruising mileage, I have difficulty staying off the loud pedal...the thing's just too much fun.
The engine I replaced was fairly similar to a Ram Jet. GM L98 rebuild, 10.7:1 compression, AFR 190 heads, GM HOT cam, and TPIS Mini-Ram intake. It was a blast to drive, but the LS1 really gave the car a new personality on the road course.

I have a freind with a Ramjet in a '50 Chevy Sedan Delivery and it really hauls but even with the 4L60 and 3.42 gears it only gets 14-15 mpg. An LS-1 in the same vehicle I'd bet would do better than 20mpg..........and be alot more drivable and "cruizin" friendly.
