Default Whats the cheapest fuel pump setup for your retro?

Just trying to figure out the easiest/cheapest setup for a fairly stock LS1 retro.

I really dont want to be installing return fuel lines, surge tanks/swirl pots etc.

What have you guys found to be a simple setup?

I'm in the process of copying Scooter's setup that he used in his 3rd gen Corvette. You can't get away from running a return line, but you can use a very short one.

You can do the following:
1) Pull from the stock tank
2) Use inline pump like the Walbro 255 lph, model gsl392 ($140)
3) Then go to a 99 Corvette Filter/Regulator ($40)
4) Run one line from the Corvette Filter up to the fuel rail on the engine
5) Run a short return line from the Filter/Regulator back to the tank

Now, this to me is the cheapest. You could save money by using a Late Model Ford pump from a truck. You will also spend at least $100 on fuel lines and fittings. However, this is an inline pump so it has 3 problems:

1) Fuel slosh on the old tank could starve the pump, Scooter says he has to keep 1/4 tank in his Vette and then it's fine on a road course
2) The inline pumps are noisier than an intank pump
3) The inline pump runs hotter and may not last as long as a cooled intank pump

Good luck, you may want to search to find Scooter's webpage. He has photos of his fuel system.

Can I just adopt a factory "fuel on demand" setup?
Factory pump/reg assembly, install it in the tank and plumb it like a factory LS1 car?

I already have a factory pump if that helps.

Yes, you can. I'm running a used 90's corvette pump in my 78 vette. Just pull your sending unit, find a pump a LT1/later pump and graft it in. Basic zip ties, hose, and clamps will do the trick.

I actual spent the money buying a 82 sending unit and pulling the TB pump. After I pull the 78 sending unit, it looked like I could of just cut the feed and clamped on the pump.
