chevelle/ LS1
chevelle/ LS1 Hi...today I came across a ls1 and a 4L60E tranny for sale at a very reasonable price and of course the thought crossed my mind of a conversion for my 72' chevelle, the problem is I no nothing about doing a conversion such as this and don't know how extensive the fabrication/work is needed to do so, as well as parts needed. My chevelle does infact need a new motor and I was planing on a 383 build up but I was wondering how feasible is it to do a conversion to a ls1. I appreciate any insight. Erik

Hotrod lane AKA Speed and Performance only offers motor mounts. You need to mod the stock oil pan and oil pick up tube. They can do it. Its 200 US for the oilpan, oil pickup and 80-90US for engine mounts. You can go that route or you can go with BRP. http://www.brphotrods.com/parts.html offers a complete deal to swap a LS1/4l60e/4l80e/t-56 into a A body Chevelle. Their kit includes the following.
Motor mounts
Frame brackets
crossmember T-56 and 4L60/65 and 80 will work,new holes will have to be
drilled like the T-56 location
Trans Mount
for 445 US. No oil pan mods needed. Very nice kit. Spend a lil bit more at first but theres no oil pan, oil pickup hassle. I'd rather have a complete full size oilpan, but thats just me.
Right now I'm doing a 03 6.0l 4l80e swap. I will be going with the BRP set-up. Althought I have to buy a LS1 oilpan and pickup tube because the Truck one hangs down way to low.
We have a member that has an LS1 in his 71 Daily driven Chevelle. Just loves the swap.
