You can probably rent an engine hoist/cherrypicker from a local equipment rental shop, or you could jack the front of the car way up and drop the engine and x-member out as a complete unit. I'd go the hoist route personally.

As for the wiring, that's a tall question. Yank out the underdash harness and you lose, for example, the starter solenoid switch wire. That might be important to you.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record on this, but I'd really recommend a Helms manual or alldata.com printout of your car and the donor LS1 vehicle so you can map out your wiring accurately. Your only hope here is that someone did that combination of car and donor LS1, and that they spent time typing up all their harness/connector pinouts to share.

I am a intuitive person as well and my theory is where there is a will where is a way.

The 93-02 all have basically the same frame right?? so the motor shouldn't be a problem to fit an i correct well screw the wires they can stay and be unused i was going to pull them to loose as much weight as possible i know its not much but what the hell every little bit counts,

as far as putting the ls1 in the body for this car and making it run.. thats shouldn't be a prob right??

I'll try.

If you don't have a lift, you're not going to lift the whole car! It has to come out the top. Like flippincamaro said a few posts above.... bolt the chains from the engine hoist to the front and back of the heads, one on the front left, the other on the rear right. Remove driveshaft. Start to lift engine. Unbolt motor and tranny mounts. Lift engine and transmission out together. A load leveler would make it much easier. This is how engines were removed from cars before there were unitized bodies and subframes; and this is how it is done when you can't lift the entire car.

As for the wiring.... my suggestion is to leave everything in there, get the car running. Then when everything works, get rid of any wire that isn't hooked up.

I'd take the motor out the top...it's not that hard... As for the wiring, if you're turning it into a race car only, then get a painless 18 curcuit harness, rewire the whole car with what you need. Then get a Fast or Big Stuff engine management for running the LS1 without all the other BS, that comes in the factory harness. That way you can strip everything from under the dash and rewire it to your liking. That's probably the route the 95 I'm working on right now is going to go.

I have done it both ways. It's easier out the bottom, but it's not too bad out the top. Just pull all the accessories, the intake manifold, and probably the balancer, and you're good to go. As stated, bolt the chain to the heads.

For example, here's me putting the motor in my 94Z, without even removing the hood.

http://www.akmcables.com/l99.htm

LT1's can use the TPIS "Happy Hooker", which bolts to the top of the intake. Makes it a snap to drop in.
