As far as bolting it in, I believe there is a difference in the K-memeber between a 5.0 and a 4.6. But you would have to modify it either way. Otherwise, it should be similar to doing a fox body. I've been waiting to see if someone would do this. Being an x stang guy, I do like the looks of the cars, its just their "motivation" that I have a particular problem with. I say put the LS1 in the car. My gosh, talking about a serious wake-up for an 96-98GT. That would be sweet! I dont know how you would get around the Hydraboost, unless you incorporated a vacuum set-up from a v-6 or 5.0 sn-95 and I'm sure there are other hurdles but they could be overcome. Keep us up to date, but again, 1 big vote for the LS1 here.

I have been trying to get my hands on a 94 model GT now for over a year. The car isnt in the best of shape but could be cleaned up and painted to be very nice. It has been sitting up for a while due to needing a trans(5-speed car) and the guy is an older dude and he just won't come off of it! I figure it would be a good buy for around 1500 bucks or so..... and when I do talk him into it I'ma ****** it! I looked into a LS1 conversion and the only thing that I found that would be a big pain would be the headers. But you can take a set of MAC mid length Mustang headers for a 5.0 and weld ls1 flanges on em and go at it. The only problem there is the SMALL tube design.

But if you get to it before I do GOOD LUCK!!!!

John, wouldn't MAC 351 longtube headers work fine? They work perfectly on a fox if you weld LS1 flanges on them.

The fox and SN-95 cars are so similar in their layout that I'd think the swap would be almost identical.

Dont mean to but in here but I believe you are right. When I installed a 351 fuelie in my 95 Cobra, I almost bought a set of fox 351 headers but I got in a hurry and just used FRPP Cobra R headers that I already had instead. But I believe the only significant difference is the EGR pipe fitting on the passenger side header. Just plug it off.

Fox 351 headers absolutely work in an SN95 body. I have a buddy with a 393 in his 94 Cobra using MACs from a 79-93. The Emissions layout is indeed the difference.

Ya know, thats about the only thing I wish I would have done before I switched to gm. I had the 351 in the car and it was a blast. Not a very popular swap where I live. By the way, is that your current garage lineup? It so, you stink Seriously,

I figure ill chime in and save you some trouble:

For a fox body swap or a sn95 swap, just buy a AJE racing (which ive done and works great) and you can order them with chevy mounts

http://www.ajeracing.com/mustang.htm

and use 351 mac headers with GM ls1 flanges on them

Thanks. Yeah, I've just always driven Mustangs since I was 16 (30 now). If my Mach 1 hadn't been such a pile of crap I probably would have bought an 05 Mustang GT, but I'm sorta soured on them right now. I've had more problems with the Mach 1 than all my previous ones combined. I'm currently suing ford over it.

Man, I hate to hear that. I really like the Mach1's. I came very very close to getting one, when I decided instead to get my Z. Honestly, the only reason I chose the Z over the Mach1 was simply because of the LS1. Thats it. I am a member over a Mach-1.org and I have seen several complaints about things. Anything from water leakage, cracking shaker hoods, valvetrain tick and of coarse the ole Borg-Warner/Tremec transmission. there were some others but those are just off the top of my head. You ever go to Fun Ford Weekend in commerce? I usually go with my previously metioned B/I/L.

I've been to every FFW ever held at Commerce. I'm usually either at the UPR booth or over near Chip Havemann's pit.

As for the Mach, the valvetrain tick is one of the reasons I'm suing Ford. The other is their apparent inability to make the rear end quit howling (after 5 tries).

What are they replacing in the rear end? Are they just trying to adjust backlash, replacing gears or have they replaced the whole rear end?

They're replaced all bearings each time, 4 R&Ps, and one set of axles. Basically, they've replaced everything but the housing.

Definately not trying to sound like a know it all, but it appears that there just not setting up the R&P correctly. Fords gears are no known for being noisy and to go through 4 sets just simply doesn't add up. Sounds like they should just be sending the dealer a brand new rear end assy. Which I'm sure thats what you are thinking too. So, I assume you are just stuck now with a ticking and whining Mach1 huh? I hope things work out for ya!!

I have taken it to three dealers with the same results. I suggested putting a complete assembly in it after the second fix, and was told that Ford wouldn't approve that because it cost too much. Well, now they have to come up with $30,000 to buy back my car instead of $475 (dealer cost) for a rear end assembly. Oh well.

My buddy had an 94 Z28, the rear end started making noise, so he took it back under extended warranty, it took the dealer 2 or 3 tries to get the rear end right. So I know how annoyed you must be with it.
