What is needed to put an LS1 in an '80 vette?

Question What is needed to put an LS1 in an '80 vette?

My dad told me that he wanted to swap the heads on his current motor and convert it to efi. I suggested that he do an LS1 swap. I searched already and the only thing I found was that someone did a swap on a '70 vette. His vette is an '80. I was wanting to know. . .

What parts besides the LS1/4L60-e will he need?

Will the 4L60-e work for the conversion?

He wont be able to do most of it on his own.
A ball park figure on cost (not including the motor/tranny)?

Or possibly any shops that would be good to do the work? (middle/southern TN or Northern AL)

Thanks a bunch. I hope that he's able to do this, it would be awesome.

Oddly enough I have been wondering this same thing.... My fiance's dad has an 80 Vette and he is going to start the restoration process in May, so I suggested an LS1...

Man you can find anything on LS1Tech...

I dont know a ton about it/what he'll need. I suggested the 4l60e to him, I would imagine it would work. Hopefully we'll get a few good responses. I know if he got it done, he would LOVE it.

LOL! Actually , I'm the 2nd 3rd gen hybrid in our car club , another member has a '92 RS that has a '98 LS1/T56 in it , you can come check out our website www.mtfba.org and post in our forums, it's free!. I've got plenty of volunteers for my swap , a finished car to compare notes with and our members are very knowledgable.Another mtfba member that also posts on here, John_D. is about as sharp as they come when it comes to programming the PCM. Come on over and check it out!

howdy all,

Thanks to LSWannabe for starting this thread for me. I really want to get started on my car this year. The LS1 conversion sounds interesting if I don't have to mod the engine compartment too much.
Thanks to Scooter70 for the tip on Tennessee Auto. I'll check them out.

Budman78, if you're out there; how hard/costly was it to switch to serpentine?

Badjuju, you wouldn't happen to be 1853, would you?

Howdy

I briefly looked in the parts for sale section. There was a guy who had an 99 LS1 for sale, it had 80K miles. He wanted $2999 for it. He also had a 4l60e with only 15K miles for $699. There could have been more people with LS1's for sale, like I said I only looked very quickly.

Scooter70, will the 4l60e work without any real issues?

I'm not sure. So far everyone around here who put an LS1 in their C3 used the T56.
