Default vette gauges

how come those lucky bastards have such a ******* cool gauge package? 200mph speedo, FULL digital instrumentation, etc...can the Vette set-up be used in another car? I've been driving my buddy's C5 for a few weeks now, and LOVE the digital message center. I hate teh thought of going back to teh TA! LOL

Hmm, you are asking about a pretty radical changeover, I'm speaking from a similar experience. I know on my S10 the IPC uses a class II data circuit that is in conjunction with the SIR brain, ABS brain, PCM, and probiably a few other devices on a C5. I have looked at the wiring diagram for a C5 vs the fbody and looked at it, and I can tell you this. It wouldn't be pretty for the average Joe. The connector for the cluster itself is the same from fbody to C5 according to the connector part number but the pinouts are totally wrong. Repinning wouldn't be a huge problem, but you might also have to use a BCM from a C5 to make it work properly, but I'm not 100% sure. The problem with that is the BCM for a C5 is much more dynamic than that of a fbody and you would have to do more than just redo the pinouts for that one, you would also have to custom program the PCM. I can't speak for a fbody, but on a 98+ S10 the instrument panel has it's own logic module. Because of this, I was having security malfunctions. You have to have the security information in each module to match. Because I have a 00 S10 but I rewired it as a 01 with power locks windows mirrors and such I had alot of mismatched pieces IE the BCM out of a 01, the PCM programmed like a fbody, a IPC out of a 4 banger truck. Somebody on one of the S10 forums says that the 6 cylinder cluster will work with the LS1. I know the tach signal is different, but they custom program the PCM so maybe they changed the PCM output to the Tach, not certain. In short I had to ship my ABS brain, my instrument cluster, my BCM, and my PCM to Wester's Garage in Canada because nobody else has the ability that I found to reprogram all those modules that wouldn't lock them. I have to use the security information for the 00 S10 though because the SIR module is a one time flash only unit and it is illegal to tamper with. Not only does the SIR module control the airbags but it also uses that class II serial data path to determine all vehicle parameters in the event of airbag deployment. IE vehicle speed so on and so forth. Sorry I can't offer much more help than that. I would call Wester's and see what they have to say. It's a really cool idea and would be sharp, I'm just uncertain of just how easy it would be to get working right.

I wasn't necessarily referring to putting it in an F-body! I'm looking for something uniques for a Hybrid car, most likely a fox body stang though

In that case, it wouldn't be quite as bad being it is starting from scratch. You would probiably want to use the matching PCM, BCM, IPC, and whatever other modules the C5 may use. The easiest way to do it more than likely is to start with a complete C5 wiring harness and tear it down wire You would have to have the SIR module disabled in each device. Without the SIR brain the airbag light would be on on the IPC, also the ABS module would need to be disabled or you would have to incorporate it into the car. You would have those disabled I would imagine. I would give Westers a call and talk to Lyndon. He is the one that has been helping me. He seems to really know what he is talking about.
