few questions on astro vans
few questions on astro vans just got through reading up on the ease of the ls1/v8 astro van conversions now i got a few questions
it seems as if there are awd and rwd astros? is this correct?
also, would the ls1/ls1 bolt right up to the stock 4.3L motor mounts? or do you need extra mounts...same with tranny...
seems like a straight forwards swap if that can be said about any swap

1. SBC V8 swap to Astro is easy (I have made), you only need custom engine mounting brackets.
Engine is bolt- on to gearbox
2. Lt1 swap to Astro ,same as SBC swap, you can use normal SBC V8 swap engine brackets.
Engine is bolt on to gearbox
3. LS1 swap is little more complicated.
Ls1 engine use the same gearbox bolt pattern like V6 and SBC V8, they are bolt-ons.
Engine mounting brackets are totally different to compare it to SBC, you have to make a custom brakets.

Yes, there are RWD and also AWD Astro's and Safari's (GMC brand). Front axle assembly is very similar (although I'm not sure if they're an exact duplicate / interchange of the S10 parts)

astrosafari.com is a HUGE treasure trove of info concerning swaps like this. I suggest you join up and start posting over there too. An LS1 in an AWD astro would be downright sick. It uses the same transfer case and differentials as a Syclone, you know.
