im thanking the pcm has gone bad, but i hate to spend another $100-300 and it not turn out to be the problem
After you find the leak, you might want to completely unconnect the PCM and and try again. If you have a leak downstream of the MAF, you will have really screwed up the mixture. Could it be so lean from the leak that it pops?
I did this same thing with a Northstar motor. It would start and go to some high level RPM. It turned out the intake manifold connection to the brake booster was underneath the intake manifold where it wasn't visible to remind me to plug it. It was amazing how much air a half inch diameter hole would flow.
