header help for ls1 in 69 camaro

header help for ls1 in 69 camaro what headers are best to use in a ls1 69 camaro project? the 3/4 headers from s&p or the full lenght headers. the car already has a rack and pinion in it, and it is a front steer. are the s&p headers 1 5/8 or 1 3/4? i know the full lenght headers are 1 3/4. does anybody know if the long tube headers make more power than the 3/4? if so does anybody have a quess on how much more. thanks for any input.
I'm pretty sure the S&P headers are 1 5/8. I'd have gone with full length headers if I had put the rack & pinion on mine. Not sure of an exact hp difference, but the long tubes should make a few more hp than the 3/4's.
Their was an artical in hot rod or car craft not too long ago, I don't remember all the info but they compaired the F-bodys manifolds to the corvettes, and to long tube headers and maby short ones. maby you can look it up. I found it to be cool that the stock maniflods for the corvette made almost as much HP and touque as the long tube headers made. ther vette manifolds wont fit my car but maby yours
I read that as well. I was told by S&P that the manifolds wouldn't fit, so I spent $500 on their headers. If I'd known that they would fit, and flowed almost as good as the headers, I'd have stuck with the manifolds.

Long tubes will not make much of a difference with a stock cam, because the stock cam has very little overlap and the main function of a long tube header is to generate a low pressure pulse to promote intake flow during cam overlap near TDC. If that mag test had used a bigger aftermarket cam, the results would have been quite different. Unfortunately most mag writers understand very little engine science. Always remember, headers are not just about flow, they're about tuning exhaust pulses to promote airflow in conjunction with cam and intake. That's why you can increase header tube size and actually lose power.
