Want to Convert to LS1 Engine I have a 89 Firebird, 305/TBI with 150,000 mi+. Dont get my wrong the engine runs great and has no wear and tear what so ever. But times change and I want the power of the LS1. Theres just a few problems in my way. I have the basic know how to install one, its just I need to know what parts and tools I need to start. Why don't you just buy a used one with a tranny and rear for that same price? I was searchin for the same swap and found an LS1 and 4L60E for 1500, just gotta look around. If you have the extra money laying around, then just mod the engine and such.
yea i would look around and find a good deal on a used engine and tranny. Your going to spend a lot trying to get that baby in there, and if you have money left over use them towards some mods. Then later down the road you can buy a nice short block.

Not sure on your car but I cant tell you the amount of times I needed to fab up I part here and their to make it all work out. if you can weld and do a little fab work it helps out. Last thing I did was dice up my trans mount and add in some C channel so that my exaust clears the cross member. Its lots of fun but, it is like two steps forward and one back.
