save up.. 3 grand would get you a VERY budget and not much faster carbed SBC swap, IF you keep your budget in mind......

it wont get your foot in the door for a LS1 swap though

find deals, do stuff yourself, and minimize cost, and you can swap a LS1 in for just under double that.... if you find some GREAT deals..... ofcourse the huge tradeoff for deals is the time it takes to find them.

I have a friend that asked this same question......he wanted me to do his conversion. When I gave him some realistic numbers he decided to do it himself and "save money". He is now over $8000 and is still not even close to being on the road yet. He has to "sublet" practically everything, he has no tools, equipment or skill. This stuff isn't really as easy as it looks on television.

sure it is... whenever i come back from a commercial break, its allmost all the way together.. just one last bolt to do while talking into the camera...

seriously though, its one of thoes things where you have to do it at LEAST once to be even close to cost effective... ive personally wasted a good deal of money.. and i have one of the cheapest budget LS1 swaps around...

if i were to do it again a 2nd time, i could probly get it done even cheaper... but id still have ATLEAST 5k in the swap... and that would be a real budget "just get a stock LS1 drivetrain running in a 3rdgen where its almost a bolt in" swap....
