6.0L Swap Cost Help I have a '79 Chevy 3/4ton that I'd like to swap in a 6.0L engine into. I am worried about the costs involved though. I can get an '03 complete engine and tranny for about $2800 with 28k miles on it. I still need to find a transfer case that will work for me. I can spend up to 5k.
I paid $900 for the truck, but will sell the engine, tranny and transfer case for hopefully around $400.
Is this even possible to do? I'm worried about the wiring harness cost and fuel tank costs. Also, will I need to get the computer reprogrammed? What other misc costs am I forgetting? The motor mount adapter is $75 from AA.

For the fuel system, just get an identical fuel tank from an 87 pickup that had the tbi injection, and swap out the fuel pump itself with a 98 fuel pump from a chevy pickup vortec 350. The pumps will swap right out and it will be a cheap cost effective way to take care of the fuel system. And for the wiring, there are alot of places out there that do good quality wiring harnesses. For the transfer case, I found out recently that the adapter that comes factory on the new 4l80e will bolt right up to an np241 transfer case, the only thing is you have to get one from an older truck with the pass side drop and has a 32 spline input shaft so it will bolt up. I have already done this swap in a 91 4x4 fullsize blazer so I know this will work for your truck. You will also need a radiator with a set of electric fans if you want it to run cool while in traffic. I think thats just about it.
