idle problems

idle problems In the last few days I have been having intermittent idle problems. Sometimes when I start the car it will die. If I give it a little gas it will start and run but it idles so low that it is almost dying. After driving for a few minutes everthing returns to normal. It doesn't seem to matter if the car is hot or cold. Any ideas?

Too bad you don't have a scanner...you need to watch the IAC to see if it is able to move as commanded by the PCM. When you shut down your engine part of the original programming runs the IAC in close to help shut down the motor....when you key it up for a restart the PCM commands the pintle to open to a learned pre-determined setting so that it will have the right amount of idle air to start and run (depending on temperatures). If the IAC isn't able to respond (like it's stuck or the throttle body is full of gunk), it may not want to idle until you run it a bit. You might want to see how clean the throttle body is, if it is all nasty with black gooey deposits, that could possibly be the problem.
