Default 98-99 up wiring conversion

Hey guys,

I bought a totalled out 98 hardtop ss and striping that sucker down to its bones and installing all the hardware into a 70 camaro rs.......and when I say everything, I mean everything. Everyone says that the 98s dont have as much of a tuning capability as 99 up computers do. Is there really that big of a difference or is it stuff I can work around? My plans are to go forged, stock cubes(maybe 383 stroker), stock cam/heads, and a single turbo similar to an sts system. Would I have a hard time getting the car tuned? Let me know what you guys think, and maybe if it would be worth converting to a 99 up harness/computer.

Default I think the issue is speed rather than capability..

My understanding is that the 1998 pcms are equally tunable but the later ones have better processors and memory. If there were no costs involved I'd go with the later ones but considering you have everything you need ...stick with the 1998.

Go with the 98, because the gage setup will be easier to duplicate (real sensors vs. PCM fed gage cluster)

you should be fine with a 98 if you're staying rather mild with your modifications. 98's are alot different than the 99+ the maf tables don't read as much info for one. HP Tuners doesn't plan on supporting the 98 for it's 2bar/3bar MAP sensor software, The Speedometer calibration in HP tuners doesn't seem to work right for the 98's. There are pleny of other differences. The nice thing about a 98 is that Painless makes a wiring harness for it so it's ideal for engine swaps to different applications.

Default Best "Stand Alone" PCM Wiring Harness solution

The best "stand alone" wiring harness, PCM solution by far I've found was from Howard Performance Gilbert, Arizona (Jeff (480) 577-9413)

You talk about a tough, weird project, with compatibility issues, my latest project is a 2000 Camaro LS1 and T56 six-speed in a 1994 Mazda Miata. Howard's brand new wiring harness was the lowest priced and included integrated Fan relays and Fuel pump relay with High-perf, reprogrammed OEM PCM. I also got a much better price on the new high flow, Delphi composite 5 wire MAF (integrated air temp sensor) and the harness already was wired for it. Everything in the harness was tag labeled for every engine connection and the entire hook-up to the car is ONLY 5 wires, truly "Stand alone"

I suck at automotive wiring challenges but, if I can do it anybody can pull it off with this package!

Does this sound like an infomercial or what?
