No. Yours should work fine i believe. I know it wouldnt be possible to use the ls1 rack with yours because the joint is different and your steering would be way off. I think the racks are just about identical externally. Hope this helps.

Uhm.. you need to swap to an LS1 steering rack if you want to swap to an LS1 engine. You also need the correct crossmember and mounts and stuff. I have an extra one if you are interested.

I thought you couldnt use the ls1 rack with the joint on the lt1 steering column?!? He will have to change the joint to get his steering to function properly.

The columns are the same in my experience with them, the difference is in the angle of the joint coming off the rack and the placement of the joint when it is put on the rack. I guess the joint is at a different location with the wheels straight so the wheel will be off with the old rack. I've never tried an LT1 joint on an ls1 rack, but I have the ls1 rack joint too.

I have an extra rack and joint off an ls1, yes.

In my opinion, the best way to swap the cars is to assemble the ls1 and trans on a ls1 k-member with rack and then bolt it up to the v6/lt1 car. Then all you have to figure out after that is the fuel lines and the wiring. The wiring isn't too tough, and you can either swap tanks and ls1 fuel lines on the car or convert to a early ls1 (97-98) corvette return style fuel system and use the stock lines and tank.
