Default 1998 Ls1 - 88 Gta

Found a 98 LS1 that appears to be good donor motor for this swap. As I've been calling around on some parts I've had a couple of people tell me that I should really try to get the 99 and newer LS1 instead of a 98. Neither or these guys could give me a real good reason, just the newer motors were better.

Any opinons from you guys that have already done the research and the swap? I think this motor is a good deal but can always wait and look around for another deal if needed.

its harder to find info on the 98 wiring.
the heads are different (and arent as good in comparison)
the intake isnt as good as the later ones.
the coils are mounted individually... so when you need to remove them for maintenance, its REALLY REALLY annoying. later ones are on a "rack" and all 4 come off in less then a min.
98s use different PCMs and that limits the tuning info and updated OSs for it..




if you plan to leave the motor 100% stock, and you can get the wiring, go for it.
if you plan to mod it down the road, get a 99-02 fbody one.

FWIW, I have all of the swap wiring detailed out for a '98 harness.

And isn't the '98 intake the same up until the 01+ where they got the LS6?

Oh, and upsides... slightly larger cam, larger injectors, and smaller throttle cam on the throttle body (quicker response).

Ignore the stupid A/C question in the email, had 3rd Gen on the mind and forgot yours was an RX7.
