Default HELP - LS1 w/ LS6 intake & harness on 2nd gen TA?

moving thread from another section....

Ok I'm about to do a LS1/T56 swap into a 1979 trans am, my new motor is a 1998 out of a trans am. I got pretty much everythying from the donor car. Complete Engine, Trans, PCM, Rad., Fans, Gauges, Fuel pump, Driveshaft, + some more stuff. My question is that I was given 2 wiring harnesses, the forst one out of the vehicle but it's missing the OBDII port which I want and need so I pestered the guy enough that he gave me another even more complete wiring harness for an '02 SS which is setup for a LS6 intake, I was planning to splice the two harnesses together and pick and choose what I need but could I just get a LS6 intake and use the entire '02 SS harness.

Also anyone that has any nuggets of wisdom for me on this swap I'd love to hear it.

Well I've been doing some reading and I guess it'll throw an EGR code if I swap in the LS6 intake since I have a '98 PCM. I plan on having headers and free flowing exhaust w/ no cats since the vehicle is a '79 and I don't have to pass emissions, but no other performance mods for now since I've blown my current budget on the swap. Will there be any significant gain on going to the LS6 intake, is it worth the hassle of getting the computer reprogrammed?

thanks

so none of that 02 stuff will work at all? I originally got it so I could grab the OBDII port off of it and splice it into the 98 stuff because they forgot to putt it from the 98 vehicle along with my engine. I haven't had a chance to go wire by wire through either harness but that stuff should all be the same.

if you want to use the 02 harness you need a newer pcm. please dont cut up a good 02 harness for just the obdii receptacle you can go to most any junkyard and get one of those of any gm car.the computer plug ins changed (pin positions) in either 99 or 2000 also some of the sensors where differents after that change. there are guys on here that know alot more than me.in addition you can call speartech for answers. what ever you do let me know about the 02 harness even if you cut off one plug. thanx joel

well I'm willing to part with the '02 body harness if you're really interested, make me an offer on it and maybe we can work somthing out. I have to really go through them both first and label each wire and compare them, and see what I really want and need before I pull the trigger on anything. Let me see what I can do. borrisbeckorov@hotmail.com
