Default Car dies at 75

A strange thing happened to me today. I was getting on the freeway and on it hard all the way through first, all the way through second shift directly to fourth and coast for a few seconds. Doing about 75ish when the car just dies. I pull over to the side and crank it over. It turns over fine, but not firing. I try this a couple times and then it just starts right up. Drove the rest of the way home (~5mi.) with no problems. Got home and shut it off and started it back up a couple of times with no problems.

I don't have a way to scan for codes right now.

Any suggestions? Oh engine, ECM, and T56 are all 99 Camaro.

It really sounds like it's starving for fuel. Whip out your pressure gauge and take a spin to see if you're losing pressure when it dies.

I thought about that. Wouldn't it sputter a bit before it actually died? It's only done it once ever. I have been on it hard before with much less in the tank and no problems.

I think it maybe electrical related. I am using a painless add on fuse block to power all the engine electrical including, injectors, sensors, PCM, fuel pump and fans. The fuse block uses an input breaker and if that tripped, it would kill the motor instantly. These breakers take a minute or so to reset which might explain why it took a minute or so to start back up. There was too much road noise with the top down on the side of the freeway to tell if the fuel pump was running or not. My turn signals did work however and they only work with the ignition switch in on.

When I get home in the morning, I will check all of the engine wiring over for any problems.

I think I may have found the problem. The ground wire for my aux fuse block was loose, screw stripped out. When I disconnected the ground wire just a minute ago, it gave me the same indications I had on the side of the road. The aux fuse block powers the elec fans, injectors, PCM, sensors and fuel pump. I am going to get a bolt and nut and cinch it down later today.

I have been wanting to scan for codes anyway so I will still do that.

Jeff, I've had this exact thing happen to me before however, in my case I attributed it to wheelspin at 45 MPH when I nailed it the motor RPM climbing so fast that it hit my fuel shutoff. When the car came to a stop on the side of the road I tried cranking it and it wouldn't start. I let it sit for about 30 seconds and tried starting it and it ran real rich initially and then drove just as normal.

Glad I am not the only one to have weird things happen. Why did it take so long to be able to restart it?

Fixed the ground wire today and scanned the engine for codes. I got quite a few, but most of them were emissions related. Evap and EGR. I expected those. Looks like the ground wire was it.

Don't have a good answer and to add to my mystery, I threw "0" codes!

I like when it's something dumb and easy to fix (once you find the problem, that is). Have you had any tuning done on your car, even to remove the emmissions junk?

No tuning yet. I still want to install a cam and different gears. The 3.36's are killing me. I drove 40 miles yesterday and hardly used 6th. I am trying to sell and buy a house, so money is a little tight. Maybe once everything is settled I can finally get my cam.
