Default ls1 porsche

sorry if i led you to believe there was one on here, but i was actually wondering what the ls1 or v8 porsche guys use for transmissions. the biggest engines those porsches come with are flat 6s that are really low and flat and they are being replaced by big v8s that im sure are longer and are definitely taller. does anyone know how they get around this fact?

New firewalls, mount the engine in the cabin and put in a very short driveline with an external rail shifter?

Good question. Or you could use a 944 as I think they were front engine weren't they?

Renegade will have their new LS1 kit for the 911 available this fall. They've been doing regular small block Chevs for years. The 5 speed G50 trans was only used in 1987-1989 Carerras, and they have very different rear torque tubes and suspension arms to mount the longer G50 trans. So swapping a G50 into an 'older' 911 (1967-1986) is a super pain in the a$$. Most guys use the 4 speed from the 930 (aka 911 Turbo) from 1976-1988. In 1989 (and only 1989) the 930 got a high-torque verison of the G50.

If you are planning more than 300 lb-ft, I would suggest beefing up a G50. Go to http://www.rennsportsystems.com/2d.html and read about the different 911 trans over the years, and what their shortcomings are. The Ultima GTR's use G50's (usually heavily modified) behind LSx's. Visit Ultima forums and see pics of side bearing covers and external oil pumps and spraybars, etc.
