Default Maf?

ok it seems as though on a lot of these conversions I'm seeing air filters directly up to the throttle body, looks great but what are they doing about the MAF sensor? I know it should be a little upstream from the throttle body, and I'm sure you could put it directly in front of the throttle body, but it would stick out more than a lot of the motors I'm seeing on here in different conversions. What's the story, am I just not noticing it or is it deleted on some apps?

You tune it for speed density.

so it is gone you're just using the MAP sensor , RPM and Air Temp/Density to calculate Air Flow without a MAF sensor? So it is removed?

Yes, There is write up about in tuning section of this forum. I'm thinking about going speed density on my car.

Your totally incorrect. I'm almost positive borrisbeckorov is talking about the Speed and Performance air filter kit. VERY restrictive, and IMO looks cheap as hell. The MAF is maked right with the TB then the air filter is on the MAF, its very compact. I'll try and dig up a pic.

Edit: heres a very poor pic. TB, MAF, then air filter.

no actually I'm doing a LS1/T65 swap into a 1979 trans am with a shaker hood, everyone who does these swaps chooses to eliminate the shaker and go for the formula hood because it's easier, but I'm not giving up the shaker hood. So I'm fabricating a whole new functional shaker intake for my LS1, and I'm leaning towards TIG welded polished aluminum for the whole thing. This is where my interest in the MAF comes in because I need to know exactly how far out the front of the motor I need to make some of my bends for this intake and if I can eliminate the MAF for both looks and improved performance why not do it. You only NEED either a MAP or a MAF anyway, I'll just cut a little fat, I just have to iron out the details. Thanks fot the help guys
