Default Fuel Pump

Hey guys, I had a quick question for my fuel pump. I was wondering if I should get a new high output in-tank pump and replace my stock one or get a booster holley pump or something like that? Let me know what you guys think would work best. Thanks

Chris

Tough question to answer, since you didn't mention what your stock pump is or its age...

General answer is toss in a Walbro 255 ltr/hr high pressure pump and you're done.

I'm not sure what my pump is. It's the stock S-10 pump and has about 130K on it. I was doing some looking and if I'm not mistaken it's the same pump they use on the camaro's and stuff. Is the pump your talking about an in-tank pump? How much do they cost? I was also wondering if someone can tell me what the wireing harness that connects to all the coil packs is called and how much they would cost for both sides. Thanks

I'm thinking they used more than one pump on the S-10 truck platform over the years...some had carbs, some had throttle body injection, some had multi-port injection.

Either way, at 130K miles I'd chuck it in the trash. The Walbro pump comes in an in-tank version and can be had from www.http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/ for around $100.

in my personal opinion:

booster pumps suck.
external pumps are usually louder, run hotter, and dont last as long
most aftermarket pumps suck.

i think your best bet is to put a walbro pump in.. its in the tank so its quiet, runs cool, they're very reliable, and its a direct replacement (all 82-94 S10s with electric pumps use that same kind of pump i donno about the 95+ ones) plus that pump will supply your LS1 with all the fuel volume it needs, even when modded (up to about 600 RWHP) and it can take the 58PSI rail pressure for years.
