Default 5.3 vs 6.0

does anyone know the main difference between a newer 5.3L and a 6.0L besides the bore. I mean i'm lookin to buy a motor and build it tto with stand boost. so could I use a 5.3 liter block and punch it out to whatever I want and order the internals for it. Also how abou the intake, coils ect. are they the same or different

the 6.0 is a lot better. Way better heads

They are essentially the same motor except the bore. A 5.3L can be bored to use the same pistons as a 5.7L LS1, but I don't know how much bigger you can go. The intake, coils, etc are the same.

how about the water pump, and other accessories, and does anyone know where I can get a book or manual on rebuilding one of these motors, because I've only built traditional small block chevys, never a Ls style motor like the 6.0L, I don't want to forget any oil plugs or small orfices or something

I believe the water pumps are specific to model. Vets, F-bodys and trucks use different water pumps, balancers and accessories. It's because of the depth of the accessories. Trucks stick out the farthest while Vets are recessed the most. You can probably run any of the three systems, just don't mix and match. I bought a couple of books on ebay that deal with modding the LS1. Good reading and info.

You can also get the 6.0 with a 4L80e if your looking for a beefier transmission.

FYI, I have a complete 6.0L with the factory wiring harness and computer for a 4L80E if you are looking for one... just plug it in and go!
