4.8/5.3 questions? I can get my hands on a 4.8 engine and on the block it has the numbers 4.8/5.3 casted in....... so whats the main difference the stroke? If so does the 5.3 have the same stroke as the 5.7?
I'm asking b/c I'm sure this block is good(it had a knock but had good oil pressure) and I have a set of good rods and crank and I can use my 5.7 heads and I already have a camshaft and everything. Heck for 200 bucks it should be worth it, it comes COMPLETE, intake, coil packs and wires, balancer, water pump, and a flywheel.

You can take a 4.8L, bore it out enough, and everything from your 5.7L will fit. Yes, 5.3L and 5.7L have same stroke. However the cranks may be different. Mainly it's the rear seal surface that is sometimes thicker on a 5.3L.

Hi: There were some posts about this topic in the internal section. You might want to to a search for it. From what I read if you rebore the 5.3 block to 5.7 you have to use a 5.7 ls1 crank, rods and pistons to keep the engine in balance. If you mix and match parts or use aftermarket rods and pistons you would have to rebalance it. If you have most of the parts then I say go for it. You have to figure the cost of machine work too.
