Default broken bolt snafo

I broke a bolt off in the block. The bolt was for the waterpump. Well rather then get the right tools to do the job I went at it with my power drill which hardly fit causing me to drill out half the bolt and half of the bolt hole. Basically I have screwed up the hole so bad I dont think that I will even be able to tap the hole to fit another bolt of any size. My question is, if I put a gasket sealer on there, will it hold enough not too leak with just the two bolts? Or did I really screw the pouch?

because that bolt is not CRUCIAL to hold moving parts one option would be to drill it big and weld an aluminum sleve into it. Then tap the aluminum sleve to the correct size.

If you could show pictures of what bolt hole it is it would help. There is a good chance that you do not even need it.

Ditto...... Or have the whole completely welded shut and then drilled and tapped.

you could use a helicoil (sp?) kit. Most kit's come with a drill bit, steel threads, and a tap. You simple drill out a larger hole, tap it and thread in the steel threads. Then your bolt screws right into the threads. I think places like napa outparts sell them.

Default i agree

helicoil is the way to go, a kit will fix you up to do 5 to ten dutchmen and you will use the same size bolt and thread as you broke off. most machine shops use them and they are easy to use.
