No problem, just bolt it on. I just had to do this to a LS2 GTO engine that I bought. I put a F body pan on it. You will need the pan, pickup, and windage tray.

Thanks, what did you do about the dipstick? And what should the bolts be torqued to?

Should be located in the same general area, and just tie down the bolt snug and then 1/2 more turn, don't over do it remeber your are tieing into aluminum which will strip very easiely. Use your best judgement.

On my 05 GTO motor, the dipstick is in the pan and I would guess that it is the same on the older LS1. The original rear sump dipstick hole is still there in the block, and you just need to punch out the plug tht is in it. On the LS2, there is no way to put a stock rear sump dipstick from a F body in there because of the shape of the Holden cast headers. I don't want to lose the Holden headers, so I am going to use a Lokar dipstick. I would guess that you will face the same problem with your 04 LS1 engine. You will just have 2 choices, either lose the holden headers or go to an aftermarket dipstick.
Also, never forget that while all the pan bolts have the same wrench size on them, the 2 long ones in the rear, are much smaller bolts and if you tighten them the same as the others, you WILL strip them out or break the bolt!

Thanks for the info. This doesn't sound to hard to swap out. What about the pickup and windage tray bolts, do you just snug these up or what? I sure don't want to strip these out, but i don't want these to come loose either. Also do you need to use any sealant anywhere on the pan itself?

The windage tray (deflector) is 18 ft/lbs. the 8 mm bolts on the oil pan are 18 ft/lbs, and the two 6mm bolts at the back are 106 in/lbs. No sealant is used on this gasket. Like all the gaskets on the LS engines, it is an aluminum core gasket with a silicone O-ring seal on it. It is impossible to over-tighten and extrude the gasket out like old smallblock engines.
