Default Oil pan clearence issue

Has any one put a F-body oil pan on a 6.0 (lQ4) ? The crank cover seems to be in the way and I was wondering what to do about this?

I think you are having the same problem I had with my 5.3. The oil pan will not fully seat against the block in the front right? It is sitting against the windage tray that covers the crank. I think I posted about this in the 86 EC thread. Anyway did you try putting the pickup on yet? that won`t fit either. The correct and easy way if you have time is to get a f-body windage tray I think it will bolt right up, otherwise fire up the cutoff wheel and cut the front of the truck tray to fit. You will also have to cut a notch in for the pickup since it bolts to a different main cap.

Edit: It was in a thread about motor mounts not the EC thread

i used a 5.7 windage tray and 5.7 oil pan and pick up. also make sure you use the correct "o" ring for the pickup because the truck and the car "o" rings are different. the biggest problem i had with the truck oil pan was how low it sat. i was worried about clearance

that cover you are referring to is the windage tray. if your using an f-body oil pan, then you need an f-body windage tray, dipsick and pick up tube to match.

Yes, I had to notch the truck windage tray to make the f-body pickup work. I don`t have pictures of it because I was in a mad thrash and needed the motor in the car that night. The problem was that the truck tray is notched where it bolts to the main cap (one of the mains I think it was #3) so that the pickup support can also be bolted on there. The f-body pickup bolts onto the next maincap forward so what I did was put a notch in on that maincap, same style and size opening as the stock opening just one cap forward. If you have a day or two I would just order the f-body windage tray from the dealer, it is not really worth the time to cut the truck one to fit. The only reason I cut mine was that I needed the motor in the frame that night.

dont notch the pickup.
that dont sound good for the oil pressure.

f body pan will need f body stuff to go with it.
good luck.
