tranny swap question
tranny swap question I have a 98 swb chevy truck with a 4.3/4l60e that I just pulled out a few minutes ago. I am going to put a 98 LS1/4l60e back in it. OK here's my question, I noticed that the 2 trannies are different in that the truck tranny has a black box attached where the linkage shaft is with I think 3 electric plugs, the ls1 tranny does not have this box or the plugs and has a different type of shaft. The shaft on the truck trans is straight and actually exits through the black box, the ls1 shaft has an arm on it. I haven't read anything about this in my research on this swap. I know that I have to use the ls1 trans with the ls1 but do I have to swap this box over to it. PLEASE HELP!! What do I need to do? Thanks in advance

The black box is the park/neutral switch, I think it should have 2 plugs, a bottom plug with 4 wires (these are to tell the computer what gear you are in) And a top plug with more wires, this plug is to operate your reverse lights and also might operate the gear indicator on your dash. The camaro LS1 and trans does not need the P/N indicator since it has a single wire that goes to the dashboard in the camaro for a P/N signal. You will still need the switch to operate your reverse lights and your gear indicator though. You should be able to bolt the truck switch onto the camaro trans and then take the longer shift shaft out of the truck trans and put it in the camaro trans. It is not a difficult thing to do.
