Default '98 LS1 alternator wiring...

Just got my car up and running and it's a '98 motor. It has a 1 wire alternator and it doesn't seem to be charging at all. Does that wire need 12V (ignition on) applied to it to make it an exciter wire or what? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Right now we have that one wire hooked up to feed my gage in the dash and the gage seems to be working but the battery isn't getting charged... it's dead right now

Thanks!
-Jeremy

there is a good few posts about this..do a search and you will have your answer. I think you have to run it to a 12v source with a resister inline.

I thought the one wire had to go to the battery with an 8 ga or better wire.

Per the '99 service manual the red wire 22awg red wire goes from terminal "L" on the alternator to pin 15 on the red connector on the PCM. Alternator terminal "L" is terminal "B" is the 4 wire plug...

if i remember right this is for the 99+ pcms, the 98s still needed the resistor inline to a 12v source

Default ...just posting this to help

If you are using a 98 harness for your conversion then tie into pin 65 (C2 blue connector) from the alternator connector pin b. That will solve the charging issues when using a 98 harness(no resistor needed).
