Please explain steering angle issues (conversions)
Was gonna post in handling section, but, it's directly related to conversions.
Read something here about steering column angles & steering. Can't find the post now. My car moves quickly to one side or another when I hit a bump. Thought maybe it was alignment. However, from what had been posted, sounds like it's the relation between the steering column angle & the control arms or some other front suspension part. Can someone please explain what needs to be done for the steering to be correct? Thank-you.

One, has the car been aligned w/ new motor because the weight increase will change the angle of tie rods thus altering toe in. two, check the rack and pinion to make sure the mounts are good. The rack could be walking back and forth. Your car has struts on the front and it pretty much non adjustable except camber and toe.

Thanks,
We did have anlignment done. However, I know that it was aligned to standard Miata spec's.. My other car drives better with a little toe out in the front .06 total. Will have the alignment checked & make sure they add the toe. Will check the rack. Could there also be a steering column angle issue? Am not sure what this means, but, remember reading about an issue in converted Miata's. Thanks again for the comments.

sounds like you have a bumpsteer problem. your tie rod is not moving in the same arc as your lower control arm. when you hit a bump this causes the wheel to either toe in or toe out. to fix you either need to move tie rod up or down where it attaches to the spindle or move the entire rack up or down to get the arcs closer.

OK, Will do. That's the problem I was looking for. Thank-you.
