2000 S10 IT's ALIVE

After waiting on the headers for what seemed like forever they came in today. Couldn't wait to get started on the truck. Unfortunately discovered something though. I'm gonna have to relocate the steering shaft after all. The guy that did my headers didn't take into account gasket thickness when he mocked them up. Most of the time this wouldn't be a huge deal but here it was. The header just barely touches the shaft when you turn it. Oh well, that's not a huge deal I guess just something else to add to the list. Figured what the hell let's get em on and see if the b!tch runs or not. Started up on the first try. Oil pressure was immediately there and the temp gauge worked as I hoped too. So did the tach. Fuel gauge I'm uncertain about though. I don't have much in the tank but it didn't show anything so maybe I will just have to throw more in the tank and see. Truck ran for a good 10 minutes and as the truck started warming up you could hear cam start thumping away Just about the time the darned thermostat was about to open the truck died like somebody cut it off I was like :WTF: Tried to restart it and it wanted to run really really rough. No idea what happened until I started to pick stuff up to get the truck pushed back into the garage and noticed I left the MAF sensor unplugged DOH. Hopefully that was the problem, but it does make kinda sense because the truck was going into closed loop and was looking for a MAF sensor that wasn't there I guess. Hope that was the problem. Maybe by the end of the month I will have it driveable. Hopefully.

Congrats on getting it running....

Even if only for a little while. Hopefully you can debug your issues with little difficulty and be up and running soon.

And with any luck, you can cheat the steering column over a little (maybe 1/8") or "clearance" the header tubes. I think a little correctly placed dimple would have negligible impact upon performance or visual appearance, and save you from doing a lot of steering column work.

Do you have some pics? I'm posting swap pics on my LS1Stang.com site. I'd love to put some pics of a cool S-10 swap on there.

I have a bunch on my website. www.geocities.com/jays_s10/ls1swap.html Don't have pics of the headers coated but I'll have pics up in a few days of the truck mostly back together I hope.
