Headers for LSX in 67-72 Chevy or GMC?
Headers for LSX in 67-72 Chevy or GMC? I have a 72 GMC with a 6.0L and a 4L80E behind it. Im trying to find a header that might fit. Anyone else tried? I bought a used set of 98-02 f-body Mac 3/4 length headers thinking they might work. The left side hits the frame rail and rubs the bellhousing area. I could make it work with some work. The right side hits the frame, engine stand, and hits the bellhousing/ trans area. Cant see a way to make it work without cutting it up. I have never attempted to build a header and would prefer to buy some, but dont wont to spend a arm and a leg. Can a normal small block header be made to work by changing the flange and spreading the center tubes? Anyone have this combo with something that fits?

My son tried Jet Hot Headers and they hit the frame with his LS1 in his 1970 GMC 1/2 ton shortbed. So he ended up with Hooker Shorties. There is a guy here in Chandler, AZ that said he'd build us some long tubes, so if we do that, we'll have the Hooker Shorties for sale.

Im using S&P's type 3 headers on my 72 chevy truck with ls1 and 4l60e. bout $520 dollars worth but chromex coated. helps on underhood temps and look really good. Fit great too. they are on page 65 at top of page.
I was hoping to find some cheaper than S & P. But they may be my best bet. How much bigger is the 4L80E over the 4L60E/65E trans? I would think the bell housing area wouldnt be much different.
