Default Oil Level Sensor

Is this sensor needed or can I just use a plug and change the PCM to ignore it? I did a search and the topic came up a couple of times but no real answers. Motor I bought doesn't have one in it and cheapest I've found one for is $45. If it's not needed then I can save the money which is getting harder to come by. If anyone plugged it do you remember what size it is?

On my S&P modified pan it is plugged. Indicates to me it is not necessary. I'll check my oil the old fashoin way... If I hear the lifters clatter, I will stop and look at the dipstick
