PCM and VIN-number

PCM and VIN-number I am about to start a conversion of my '69 Z/28. An LS1/T56 combo was bought of eBay and it should arrive shortly. It takes about 8-10 weeks for shipments like that when you are in Europe.
My question is: Can I get the VIN out of the PCM if I just hook it up to 12V juice. I mean without having it in the car. Using HPTuner or similar software
The reason I am asking is that I would like to get in contact with the owner of the car (-02 Camaro SS) this combo came out of. It was wrecked from behind. The engine had some SLP stuff on it and a B&M shifter so I guess the former owner did something to it. If I can get hold of him I can know if there are more to it.

Yes you can but you have to have a scanner to get to the information. Just be careful some of us do not take to kindly to being contacted by purchasers of past vehicles. He could also be more than willing to help. Good luck.
