Default Upcoming Swap into my '89 Chev PU

I'm about to do a swap into my daily driver pick-up. Starting to think of details, mostly associated with computer issues. Here are a couple of questions I have so far.

1. I'll be using an auto trans. Where do you get the speed(mph) feedback that the tranny requires for shifting?

2. And, how do you get a mechanical speed-o to work with this combo?

not sure.

the computer i believe shifts using the mph reading. not rpm.

the input to the computer comes from the transmission.

it might be easier for you to purchase a wiring kit from painless wiring ect. that way its not that big of a night mare in the long run getting it right.

you could have the tail shaft cover modified so a speedo cable would work but your still stuck because you have the electronics that have to work also.

how about a t400/350 with a gearvendors od kit?

That sounds awesome. A buddy of mine had a mild 350 (don't remember what type) in his ~88 S-10 with loud exhaust. One time I was driving with him to a party and a cop pulled us over just so he could ask him questions about the swap and engine . Pretty cool cop.

michael101, do you plan to use the LS1 4L60E? If so, you'll be fine.

As for the mechanical speedo, Abbott Enterprises, Inc. makes a Cable-X box which is an electronic/mechanical adapter that converts the VSS signal from your PCM and uses this to drive a ratio adapter that has twelve dip-switches on it to enable custom tayloring of the mechanical speedo calibration. I used one for my swap and it was calibrated to more than 99.994% accurate at 60MPH

I think I remember hearing that some people were converting to vac. operated shifts. That was back when I had an LT1 and kept killing the tranny.

Excellent info JohnB

I've been watching Ebay and looking for Eng/Tran package. I will be using the LS1-4L60E. Just missed one last night. Seems that the sellers would figure out that their 5K asking price is too high if the bids consistantly only reach about $2400. Guess they missed out on that supply vs. demand lecture in school.
