I'm getting ready to drop a 2001 LS1 into my 91 Z28. I'll be adding the pictured parts first! Man they're easier to work on when they're not in a car!!

Since it's a "personal" job, I'll have to work it in as time allows, but I'll have it ready by spring. I think I've decided to go with a Speartech custom wiring harness and Speartech PCM programming!
The engine is actually setup and running with a radiator right now in the shop; doing some LS1_edit stuff.
I can't wait to get it in the car and on the road.

John B, We actually can NOT do this yet. The PCM changed for 2001, and although the pinout is the same, the algorithm for reading and programming is different. I want to do what you are suggesting just as soon as it's possible. Right now I just set it up and pretend it's a 2000 for PCM programming.

Thanks Ryan. It is a clean car. I like the 91-92 Z28's (well I like them all ), with the big rear spoiler, the wheels, and the hood blisters. Plus, I don't like T-tops, so this car had all of the right features (except for the RED interior).
It should be a fun project!

That is a beautiful Z28! I love late model third gens, especially ’89 to ’92 Formulas, ’91 to ’92 T/As, and ’91 to ’92 Z28s. With an LS1 that car is going to be almost like a dream car for me. I was very close to buying a ‘91Z before I bought my current WS6. It was also white with the white inlays on the wheels and it had a gray interior.
Nice car, and great plans!!! Good luck to you

Thanks RPM WS6. Yes, it seems like it all came together for the 3rd Gens in the last years. I really wish this car had a gray interior!

Jeff, They are MAC headers. They looked like an easy fit on the 3rd gen body. Some of the others probably perform better, but since everything is designed for the 4th gen I wasn't sure what would fit right. I cut off the emissions fittings, smoothed the primary welds, and as soon as I finish opening up the collectors a little, I'm going to get them Jet Hot coated.

John, since you are playing with the LS1_Edit, GM says that they made both "performance" calibration improvements along with LEV emissions enhancements. Is there anyway that you can download the fuel map & timing data with your BETA LS1_Edit between the '01 LS1 and say a '99 PCM to compare exactly what they have done (compare total timing, fuel maps, etc)?

I will document the conversion pretty well. Lots of pictures, etc. It probably won't be as in-depth as John B's , but I'll do as good as I can.

Hey if you can swap motors, swapping interior shouldn't be much of a challenge for you

That's actually good timing on asking that! Although I have progressed slower that I had hoped for, the engine is now in and the car is up and running. I have a Flowtech cutout ordered, and as soon as it shows up the car goes in for exhaust installation. The Mac headers were a definite no-go, so I am going with the stock cast iron manifolds, and a cut-up and re-sectioned Mac off road Y-pipe. The car is running good and I took it up the road once, but with the open manifolds, it's too loud to put any miles on yet. I'll get some pictures up in the next week or so. I'm ready to flog this thing at the drag strip as soon as it's finished!!!

On the 3rd gen Camaros, the lower A-arms stick way inside the frame rail area, right where the Mac's wanted to go. I looked at the 4th gen design, and the lower A-arm is much smaller and does not stick into this area at all. Oh well, live and learn. I'll just see how the manifolds perform. I have heard the cast iron manifolds from the 2000 and 2001 flow better than the previous stainless manifolds, so I am going to use them. Hopefully it will flow well enough to turn out some decent numbers.

SpearTech,
I really admire what your doing. I'd like to do the same for my 91 RS someday
Since the MAC's didn't fit, do you think any of the Long Tubes might? Seems like the FLP's come straight down more than the MAC's do, or at least the driver side one does.
