Default Cable or Wire??

I bought a 97 Corvette LS1,, so Do I try and use the drive by wire? or swap out and go cable. It might be cheaper to hook up the wire. I'm hearing I'll have to reprogram the computers and buy a throttle body. Can you point me in the general direction. Thanks C5/CJ5

It seems everyone converts to the throttle cable version, and I suppose for most it may be easier. But if you know how to set the PCM up, the throttle by wire works great! I've set them up here for customers and it works flawlessly.
When I put the 2001 LS1 in my 91 Z28 (one of the other topics in this section), I'm going to use the ETC, just because I think it's neat! <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">
Keep in mind it does require the Corvette throttle pedal assembly, as well as the Throttle Actuator Controller.

John,
Thanks for the info. Since the TAC takes care of idle speed,, my wiring harness and computer will have to be able to accommodate the new throttle body. Like the difference in connectors for the idle speed control. Is this possible?
Thanks again

If you are starting with a harness from a Camaro, then you just tuck away the IAC and TPS wiring and leave it alone. It is easiest to just add a separate mini stand alone harness for the electronic throttle control. The wiring goes from the throttle body to the TAC box, and then from the TAC box to the throttle pedal assembly. Believe it or not there are only TWO wires that go from the TAC box to the PCM, and they are serial data lines. I suppose the 7 wires going to the standard throttle body could be used for the ECT, it would just require that the TAC box be mounted right by the PCM since that's where the wires used to go. Then you would need to add one more wire since the ETC throttle body needs 8 wires. THEN, just add a small harness from the TAC box to the throttle pedal. It's all very doable.

I put the Vette ETC in my truck. I built a new pedal from a Vette pedal and my S10 pedal. I built a wire harness to run from the pedal to the controller. It is pretty easy and works great.

Default What does a controler look like?

Hello
I have a LS2 and was considering keeping the Drive by Wire on the transplant. Sure would make the conversion slick.
What does the controller look like and where is it located?
You are not talking about an aftermarket item is my assumption.

I read the computer controls the throttle on the large throttle bodies to keep the driveability. Is this BS?
Thanks
Rick
