Default c-5 vette brake fluid level sensor...how does it work

Im planning on using a c-5 master cylinder and I noticed it has a sensor for the fluid level I assume. I would like to hook this up to it turns on a idiot light on my dash if it ever got too low. I know its a long shot but does anyone know how I would do this?

I am pretty sure it is just a switch that shuts when the fluid gets below the pre-set level. You would just ground the light through the switch (one wire to ground and the other to the ground terminal on your light). I have the service manual at home and will check tonight to be sure.

Are you still trying to use the C5 instrument cluster?

its not for fluid level.

its a pressure switch that compares the pressure between the front and rear pistons.

if you have a failure on one side (slow leak, low fluid, line cut by ex-wife, ect..) then when you put the brakes on, the switch sees one side has alot more pressure then the other, and it clicks over... grounding a brake warning light.

if you fix the problem, and apply the brakes, it should click itself off.

older cars had this switch in the prop valve.. newer cars have it built into the master cyl... the ABS unit acts like its own prop valve.

Nope, it is indeed for low level. I just checked the service manual and it is just as I described. The switch provides the ground for the light when the level reaches a certain level. Just wire it up like I said or email me and I can send you a schematic from the service manual.

I plan to mount my booster/MC under the dash and it wont be easy to access down there. This will make me alot more comfortable with the setup if it works

Since Im using a MC from a 4 wheel disc corvette do I still need a proportioning valve or is that taken care of inside the MC. Ive got a nice wilwood valve already...just wondering if I need it or not.

Depends on your disc setup. Ideally you want the front to lock up just before the rear. What are you using for calipers front and rear.

hey thanks for replying to my email however I cant seem to open the attachment with any of my photo programs. If you can resend it as a jpg or something that would be great but its not a big deal.

For now I have a stock chevy truck setup up front and out back I have an impala SS rear end with discs.
