As of right now I have a '99 v6, but I would like to put in an LS1 or even LS6, anything with more power. How hard is it to do this, and how much would it cost.

I know that you probably don't want to hear this but since you asked for an honest answer I'll give you one....too much!

You'd be better off selling your V6 car and just buying the V8 car. Why, it would be cheaper in the long run, guaranteed to perform as advertised and pass emissions, no worries if the work was performed right, will maintain it's resale value not to mention somebody has to do all of the work.

I don't mean to sound negative here because I'm not. It's just that when somebody asks a loaded question like yours, chances are they have not done much mechnical work before and don't really appreciate the complexity of what is involved. This is not a simple bolt-in proposition.

Now, if you want a challenge and have a huge wallet, by all means go for it but it just seems that if you have the money, just buy a Camaro that already has on in it then.

Does this make sense? My swap cost pushed over $9K with me doing 99% of the labor. I can't even imagine what it would have costed to maintain my picky quality standards.

Good luck!

my buddy has a 97 camaro and went from the v6 to a lt1 w/ lt4 heads and cam...

wasnt worth it him and i spent countless hours on the thing, hes spent close to 6k for everything

If he had just sold his car and bought a z28 then put just 3k into it it would be faster..

word from the wise....dont do it and buy the v8

I did a 3.4L v6 to bolt on LS1 swap for about $3500 including the cost of the car ($200) and a used tci converter ($225). It was a lot of work, but it was really fun. Only way it would be affordable would be to get a donor car like I had. I swapped everything over including all the wiring, entire fuel system, suspension, brakes, etc.. I swapped a manual car to an auto so that made it even more of a pain in the ***. It was fun as hell yesterday playing with my buddy on the street from a roll in his bolt on m6 LT1!

Main reason I did it is because I like to drag race, so cutting up a nice car makes me feel kind of bad. Hacking up a $200 car is fun! I've worked on these cars a lot though so nothing was really new or that difficult though.
