Having to obtain that regulator, or modify the intank unit was the worry for me.

I found the early style rail with return pretty cheap. Welded up fittings on it to use AN line, no worries about the clip on fittings etc.

Did you get adapters to use the GM fuel line connectors?

I had the male GM connector cut off the fuel rail and brazed onto some tubing. this tubing I used with the female output of the regulator in the back of the car. I had a male AN -6 fitting put onto the fuel rail and bent my own fuel line back to the regulator. I picked up some high pressure rubber line to run from the tank to the pump and from the pump to the regulator and back to the tank.

I was trying to get away from 2 things.. lots of customizing parts, and/or hunting down fittings/adapters to use the stock GM parts. By modifying the old C5 rail, we had to only weld up 2 fittings, everything else was plug n play. I didn't want to use any rubber hose on the car at all (either did my dad) as the goal is to have the car in show condition.

Here's a look at the fuel fittings on the Cobra.

We wanted to run AN line for several reasons. We had some 6 AN line & fittings around; the Cobra kit came with a fuel cell, and wanted to integrate with that cleanly, plus dealing with AN fittings is fairly easy. Althought it can get frustrating when you start mismatching brands (Aeroquip & Earl's etc).

Here's how we did the fuel cell.

We're using a Walbro pump, since I had a spare, with a custom mount in the fuel cell.

We used a run of the mill GM fuel filter, so replacements could be easily found.

I'm not sure what I'll do for the Jeep. I am going to see what I have for stock fuel lines. I'll probably try to use those, keep the Jeep fuel filter, put in a Walbro intank pump, and maybe just adapt the fuel lines to the 5.3/6.0 truck intake, which has a return. A couple short lengths of custom line will probably be easiest.

There is something to be said for a single fuel line leading to the motor rather than a feed & return <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Much cleaner, some peace of mind as well..

Jeff, the reason I used the C5 dual line fuel rail was:
</font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I wanted an OEM look for everything with steel supply and return lines</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I was able to use the OEM G-body in-line fuel filter in it's OEM location</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I did not want a fixed external fuel regulator using the C5 set-up</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I was able to install a fuel pressure regulator on the actual fuel rail so that I can fully adjust the FP right on the fuel rail</font></li>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Simplified the installation and I knew for a fact that it would work.
    </font></li>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Knowing what I know today I might have tried the single line but not back then, nobody had tried it!

Why is it that most of the conversions I have seen use the 97-98 corvette fuel rail? Whats the deal? I am using the 99 F-body single line rail with no problems. I am using a 99 C5 fuel pressure regulator mounted just in front of the pump and a single line running up to the fuel rail and a short return line to the tank. Is there something to gain by using the supply/return concept of the vette one?
