Engine Swap Question ?
I got a buddy with a 93chevy 1500 truck with a six cylinder. He can get a 99 Vortec 5.7 with computer and wiring harness. Is there any problems swapping these computers out ?Any advice on this conversion? Also, what tranny should he use? 700R4, 4-L60E ??Thanks a lot !!!BTW motor and computer, harness are brand new!

Change the fuel pump over to a high pressure unit, use the 4L60E since the new computer is looking for it AND you don't have to jury-rig a T.V. cable that way, and re-flash the computer to a 96-97 model, because it won't run with the VATS that is used on the newer trucks. Everything else should go pretty well.

I wasn't aware of a 99 Vortec 5.7 crate motor. Maybe you have something different. When I hear 99 5.7 Vortec, that typically describes the Central Port Injection engine that came in the C/K trucks. You may have something else. VATS is the Vehicle Anti Theft System that requires a special key to get the engine started.
