lt5 in split window vette
Very cool, thanks for the vids!
Back in the early/mid sixties, when Lowville was a Qtr. mi.,there were some Superstock battles there. Dave Strickler/Grumpy Jenkins (427 Impala) vs. Butch Leal (Ford Thunderbolt), Etc.
That hill at the end was good for slowing down some of the quicker cars. But I saw Art Arfons from Akron (Jet Dragster) turn over 200mph.(big deal then) go down the strip, up the hill, and into the woods. He knocked down some little trees before he stopped.
Turning tens was a big deal. Dragsters were turning in the eights and nines.
There was a guy named Gene Gorsky(local), that used to build weird, dual engine cars. He had an old gray 60' Valiant, with a 426 Wedge under the hood and another in the trunk, and it kicked a**! He had a 40' Ford coupe with an old flathead under the hood, and a fuely 327 Corvette motor behind the seat. Hood up on State St. "you wanna race my Hot Rod?" I wonder if he's still around?
The last time I was up, I saw an old VW microbus, in primer, with a blown Chevy behind the driver, cruising on State. St. Does that thing run?
