Default ls1 to a 700r4 -- my new project -- please help

hello,

I'm going to buy a complete LS1 for my 68 chevy pickup. The only problem I face is how to adapt my brand new bowtie overdrive's 700r4 to the LS1.

The LS1 is out of a 98 corvette.

If anyone has had good luck doing this and knows what parts to get, please let me know. I have heard about spacers, flexplates, and different converter. I don't want to buy a new converter and I have access to a machine shop.

Thanks, Mark

the converter should bolt to the flexplate if it has two sets of holes. the certering hub of the converter will need to be changed but i don't know if it needs to be bigger or smaller. as far as the trans bolt up goes the right side middle bolt will not be used as there is no hole in the block. you could probably weld a mounting flange on the top of the trans as most of the rotating stress will be on the dowel pins. another choice would be to see if ultra bell has a adapter for ls1

Here are the part #s you will need. If you use these you won't need any special converter or nose spacer/reducer.

Flywheel is 12551367 cost is $64.27
spacer is 12563532 cost is $13.50
bolts are 12563533 cost is $3.24 get a total of 6 of these.

All of these prices are from www.gmpartsdirect.com

I have this setup on my car with a Th400. everything works perfect so far.
