Anybody ever offset thier steering shaft?
I'd like to place an ls1 into an 83 supra, but everthing I've read regarding a v8 swap has had issue w the exhaust header and the steering shaft on the drivers side.
Is there anyway to offset the shaft so I dont need a costum made exhaust header? Possibly a dual gear setup?....
Any info is appreciated.
Cheers

Not that I know of.
You can get extreme angle u-joints for the shaft and probably hook up a gear box to offset it but if you can get a custom header that would be the optimal solution.
I had the same issue with my conversion. I called Street and performance and ordered a driver's side header that I thought would be close. I had them send it to me with the pipes just tack welded together. I was able to modify three of them myself and then had a local shop make me one pipe. You probably have the same issue I did. The pipe for the rear cylinder was interfering with the rack where the steering shaft is attached. I ran the pipe over the others toward the front and then down.
Take a look at the picture. If this might work for you give S&P a call.
