swapping 305 for a ls1 on a 92 rs Well i have a 92 camaro RS with a 305 running high 15's.I bought an ls1 for my car hoping that it would do better.So my question is will my 700R4 tranny work good on the motor or should i just buy a new tranny,also what tranny? Will i need a new wiring harness or can i use the stock one?Also if i put a cam on the ls1 and heads and pulleys,headers.what do you think i would run in the 1/4.Should ai keep the stock rearend or go better. What kind of exaust combination should i go with.Let me know something guys i need some help.Thanks <img border="0" alt="[bang head]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_banghead.gif" />

Re: swapping 305 for a ls1 on a 92 rs I am currently getting ready to install my ls1 into a 68 chevy pickup. Not much is that same between our cars except I also have a 700R4. I am going to order a flexplate and a some kind of spacer from Yank Converters http://www.converter.cc/ They have the whole kit to bolt up the transmission. You most likely have the non-corvette LS1 so you can modify the throttle to accept you TV cable from your tranny. You can do some searching on the internet for the proper location and setup of the pivot point. I personally have the corvette engine and throttle body but I'm modifying the fly-by-wire throttle with my own custom machined piece.

I highly recommend switching to the 4L60E, but if you are sticking with the 700R4, GM makes a nice conversion kit to do it. It consists of a flywheel, spacer, and longer bolts. It works with the stock 700R4 torque converter. I think the Yank kit lets you use an LS1 type of converter. Not sure though.
